Oficial poster Valencia Open 500
With less than a month and a half to go until the start of the tournament, the official line-up for the Valencia Open 500 has now been released. Battling it out for this, the first edition of the competition, will be six out of the ATP’s Top Ten seeds: Andy Murray (3), Andy Roddick (6), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (7), Nikolay Davydenko (8), Fernando Verdasco (9) and Gilles Simon (10).
Other Spanish players joining Fernando Verdasco in the line-up for Valencia include all members of the national team that made its way to the final of the Davis Cup last weekend – Tommy Robredo (18), David Ferrer (19), Juan Carlos Ferrero (21) and Feliciano López (34) – plus Nicolás Almagro (30), Albert Montañés (53) and Guillermo García López (54). Other distinguished names appearing in the tournament include Sweden’s Robin Soderling (11), finalist at the recent Roland Garros French Open, Frenchman Gael Monfils (13) and Czech Tomas Berdych (16), as well as Paul-Henri Mathieu (27), Juan Mónaco (37), Igor Andreev (43), Ivan Ljubicic (46), José Acasuso (50) and Janko Tipsarevic (55), among others.
Tournament director Antonio Martínez Cascales is “delighted” with such a star-studded line-up. “To have players of such quality in Valencia will make for a great show: the public will get to enjoy the very best tennis at the very best venue,” he enthused, in reference to the Ágora building in the City of Arts and Sciences, home to the tournament’s Centre Court.
The matches in the Valencia Open 500 will be played on two courts, Centre Court and Number 1 Court, with the first week of competition seeing the qualifying round before battle commences between the final 32 players on Monday 2nd November. Of these 32 players, 24 will have earned their place automatically, with 4 players coming from the qualifiers and a further 4 through the ‘wild card’ system. There will be a total of 11 sessions – 9 daytime and 2 in the evening – that will see the players competing for a total prize pool of 2.1 million euros.
Tickets for the final and semi-finals of the Valencia Open 500 have unfortunately already sold out, but fans can still enjoy some world-class tennis in the earlier matches by purchasing tickets at their local El Corte Inglés department store, online at www.elcorteingles.es or by calling +34 902.400.222.
